>>23644439After being attacked, food was the major annoyance. Everything was done with little kiosks and small shops, there was nothing like a supermarket at the time (that we found, anyway). We were there Jan 6th, their Christmas, and everywhere was going to be closed so we realised we needed to cook, so we decided we'd get stuff for spaghetti bolognese. Should be easy, right? No. Had to go to one shop for the meat, another for the onions, another for the spaghetti and so on. Took us all of Christmas Eve to get ingredients for one meal on Christmas Day and even then we couldn't find garlic.
I think the first McDonald's had just opened in Moscow too. We went to it. It was not only the best, but the CHEAPEST meal we had in three weeks there.
Sounds like you did right staying in the Stans. Probably a fuckload warmer than Moscow in winter too.
