>>10020314Any illness kept you bed ridden for months on some shitty straw filled mattress in a dark house with 3 windows that was perpetually too hot or too cold that constantly stank of human or animal shit
Every chore was an ordeal even something as simple as taking a shit took 4 times as long and left you filthy and tired
You lived and died within 20 miles of where you were born unless you signed up with the army to be used and abused by officers who would flog you for so much as sneezing without permission
There was no savings or security, if the money you kept under the mattress for 30 years got robbed you were absolutely fucked, if your house burned down hope your daughters are young and nubile enough to get pimped out for good prices, disease kills your animals well enjoy leaving in destitution
Criminals and bandits plagued the countryside, better hope some guards are patrolling the roads during your trip into the city or some highwaymen will strip you down and hold a knife to your throat and make you watch them rape your family, and hope that you don't live on a wild frontier with indian war parties raiding your homestead and doing the same thing as the highwaymen, or that some psycho doesn't take a mind to invading homes at night because the authorities have absolutely no way or means to track and stop them
Living in the 1700s was more or less the equivalent to living in northern mexico right now, minus the occasional modern luxury like flush toilets and light bulbs and television
