DMR is pretty useless without the internet. Sure you can hit a local repeater 15 miles out or so, but if you want info longer distance you're going to want some HF.

I have a UV-5re and a UV-82HP. Between the 2 of them, I have most public service frequencies, GMRS & FRS channels, and all the local repeaters. I also have dedicated police/fire scanners and a good shortwave radio that can work on batteries if needed.

Kill switch is definitely viable in countries like US, as 99% of consumer internet is 5 lobby-dependent companies.

The opposite is countries with high WISP market penetration (mostly eastern europe and certain landlocked 3rd world shitholes), those have far more diversified user base and long hauls, including peerings, so "turning off internet" is pretty much impossible.

No one is going to talk to you on those things. I have one for train hopping anyway though, in case I stop neeting and have to use them for transportation.
