i never turned up on the first day to any class, when i did show up everyone had already formed social and study groups and i didnt talk to anyone in my class for the next 3 years

Yes, first day is usally just course outlines etc., but it's still worth going. Staying up to date is way easier than catching up, and skipping your first day sets a precedent that will make you tempted to skip classrs further down the line. Trust me - I've fucked up a lot of degrees.
