If you look at the detector hardware it's literally a detector (layers of CCDs and other types of detector elements) and if you look at the papers about it they describe in detail using that equipment to detect the Higgs. Let me tell you how it is. I visited CERN and was brutally fat-shamed by the French hotel staff "your room is next to the cafeteria, for you sir" and (in Spanish) by some other visitors "un objecto de chocolate!". Not to mention others saying I "looked American". It was awesome, like being in the sequel to a movie with Richard Feynman. The food was good too, fries and beer with every meal.
So if there is some secret hell portal at CERN, tell me what your crazy theory is. In the meantime, mail a letter to your elected officials asking for an increase to CERN's budget along with as much cash as you can spare in unmarked small bills.
