I’m Russian, and my dad works in an embassy. Around 2004, when I was 6, he was assigned to work in London, and we lived there until 2008, and afterwards we’d spend a couple of weeks in London every summer.
I grew up watching CBBC, reading Horrible Histories, going to the Science/Natural history museum every week or so (we lived near Kensington park), attending various sport classes in community centers, day camps, and so on. Honestly, I consider my childhood had began and ended in London.
Things I’m still nostalgic about, off the top of my head:
Going to the Princess Diana Playground every day, having mom buy me a 99p soft ice cream with that orgasmic flakey chocolate stick
Chucklevision, Nev the Bear, Raven, Bamzooki
Had Doctor Who pajamas/backpack/lunchbox/the whole deal
The Science and Natural history museum were unbelievable
Kettles and Tyrrels with vinegar or black pepper
Going to sea resorts on weekends and going to theme parks, my favorite was Southend-on-Sea
Now I’m stuck in Moscow living a regular slav life studying in uni, dad is over in South Africa with his new family, mom is a cool wine aunt
