Is going to an English university worth it anymore?
I am Slovak, can speak fluently English + German, but am worried that things have changed too much for my liking. Think immigration, economy, system, etc.
When I was little, my dream was to actually study in the UK but now I dont know if it is such a good idea, considering the abovementioned things + being indebted.

I plan on studying either diplomacy, languages or teaching.

Can anyone provide some insight or opinions? All welcome.

Hey man! As long as this whole virus blows over, I also hope I'll be studying in the UK next year. I'll tell you, you should feel welcome here.

I assume by 'the things that have changed' you mean Brexit and stuff. It should not have too much impact overall.

Our economy is still ranked in the told 10 on the Economic Freedom index, AND we still have a vast welfare system. Which ever way Brexit takes us, not much should change too much for the every-man/woman.

When you say attitudes to immigration have changed too much, I assume you aren't a fan of the classic image of a pork-bellied Brexitier who 'hates foreigners'. Sure, bigots like that exist in every country, but I'll tell you that if you wanted to study here, your peers would be the opposite. I'm from possibly the whitest/most middle-class region in the Uk (our primary exports are potatoes and fat old men) but you will still get shamed more for being a racist than for being a minority. Our universities are some of the most varied in the world.

If you're worried about debt, you can't go wrong with ending up in teaching. Think of it this way, if your fluent in English already, you will always have a decent teaching jobs to fall back to. Anything to do with diplomacy/government and politics on top of that is a bonus. If you want to work in the UK, degrees like government and politics/international relations/diplomacy are also some of the most respected as general displays of aptitude.

Whatever your decision, hope it all works out!

Economic freedom is the index of how free market your country is. It doesn't tell much about your countries wealth or peoples welbeing. However we do rank 6th in the amount of GDP and 26th in per capita which is quite high considering how many micro nations there are
