He said in an interview in the early 2010s that the singular problem for his projects was lack of funding/sponsors. Can't help but feel like this challenge has lessened over time now with things like Kickstarter and Netflix enabling easier funding of projects, and even think he'd get a positive reception from his fanbase if he did try something like that. But he hasn't. I don't know if he's simply unaware of these methods or too conservative in his thinking to attempt it, but his presence in the industry which was never especially prominent has only faded more; his last involvement with something was in 2015 iirc. Which is extremely unfortunate. He deserves as much prestige and free reign as Kawamori and Tomino get.
Anyway this is a thought I've held on to for a while but haven't found an opportunity to post on /m/ yet.
