Strictly speaking pri barely counts as a political party or at lesst kt wasnt born as such, it was concieved more like a system of goverment itself that splited quotas of power amongst different sectors, military, industrial, agrarian etc, the idea behind it was that after 100+ years of non stop unrest civil wars a new system wss needed that keep all the power holding factions more or less contempt and it was probablly necesary back in the day

Despite the historic revisionism being pushed by the left and the federal goverment the one and only true opposition party mexico has ever had is PAN, it was created as an alternative and opposing PRI from the get go proof of it is that it managed to survive fighting for over 50 years without winning a single state and kept on going and when they did started winning shit it was people wich where 100% PAN formed and with no previous PRI affiliation, the few gormer priistas in PAN came after 2000 seeing an opportunitty on it now that they ran federal goverment (and allowing them in is still the biggest mistake the osrty need to be held accountable for) now compare it to PRD and MORENA wich preetty much all of their leadership has a pri background and even held office under that banner, AMLO included and you can see who the real continuation of the pri-goverment system is
