Stacey looks at how drugs from South America enter Spain in huge quantities before being sent around the continent, including the UK, in smaller batches.

In the BBC show, called Costa Del Narcos, the presenter, 33, joins the Spanish police air force team patrolling the strip of water between the country’s southern coast and Morocco.

It is a popular and lucrative entry point for smugglers.

She explores the extraordinary lengths cannabis runners will go to in order to get the drugs across the sea – travelling in speedboats at up to 100mph in extreme weather conditions and in the middle of the night to reduce the chance of getting caught.

Stacey then meets one of the biggest hashish mafioso, who tells her: “I send other people to collect it. They get paid €30,000. Since I started in 2004 I think I may have made around three to four million euros.”

In Apartado, Colombia, the reporter meets one of the biggest smugglers in the region to understand the cocaine export business, which earns him $175,000 (£141,500) with each shipment.
