Correlation doesn't equal causation. For all we know cats and dogs have NDEs and picture themselves floating from their body and that only exists inside their brain.
I can't really argue that having hallucinations before death is something that was evolutionary selected. Just might be one of those quirks of life. We still don't know how our consciousness really works
Assuming it's a matrix tier universe explanation is just reaching. People see the same things on shrooms and LSD more or less.
