Watching Sweden get erased as a nation hurts me deep inside. I used to love Moomins when I was a kid. I have a special thing for Swedish culture because of it. Never I have felt so comfy as when I reading these books. Now it feels like something from a paradise lost.

I remember these, the wizards hat that made juice, ship with emeralds, giant ruby. That was so surreal and comfy. I can still find the book probably. Never realised it was swedish tho.

Yeah, I found them in this book. It's a compilation and other tales in it are OK too, but Moomins are obviously the best

Wrong, the Moomins are a Finnish creation like >>1036243 said and the Japs just made their own adaptation, even that was long after the first story book which was written during the winter war.

Also the first anime adaptation was complete and utter shit since it completely disregarded the source material in an attempt to be more "mature." It went on to become so bad that Tove herself had to ask them to stop raping her creations.

Your pic is from the 90s anime adaptation which I actually liked and watched myself when I was a kid. It was produced as a collaboration by the Finns, the Dutch and the Japs and it had a much higher production value than all previous adaptations.

What I was talking about earlier were the god-awful 1969-1970 Mūmin and 1972 Shin Mūmin which were never dubbed or aired outside of Japan. Pic related.
