I'm turning 26 soon and I know how you feel. I'm actually working on clawing my way out of that situation right now via vocational school, though. Honestly, yes. For a long time I kept comparing myself to my friends who went to high-end colleges on Daddy's money and schmoozed their way into Pixar internships, while I busted my ass for 5 years to get an art degree and ended up realizing too late that it was worthless without connections in the industry. I haven't been able to move out of retail as a result, and for a long time I've thought that this was the most I could ever expect out of life. That's not a healthy outlook at all, though. Comparing yourself to others on some arbitrary curve isn't going to make you happy, and it isn't going to accomplish anything either. All that matters is that you're personally happy with your life, and if you're not, then take the steps necessary to get to where you are. It's hard, but most things worth doing are.

Because I was a dipshit and I thought my talent would carry me through that part. I was also scraping by on minimum wage at the time and trying to pay for school supplies along with whatever tuition my scholarship didn't cover, so it never even occurred to me to look at unpaid internships, especially since a lot of them are out of state and you have to pay through the nose to even be in the program.
