The issue here is people have this idea of ancient Egypt which has very little in common with reality, it wasn't a single kingdom, it's a geographic area which had many many many dynasties which effectively represent different nations that sprung up in the send area over the course of 4000 years. 4000 years is a very long time by human standards, in that region over such a period of time it's almost certain there were black rulers in Egypt at various points in time but the Sahara also served a massive barrier isolating black Africans in more Southern regions and largely preventing northward moment in Egypt for significant periods as well and there were also lighter skined north African rulers with more in common with the residents of the middle east, actual arabic rulers, and many mediterranean rulers as well. On average the residents and rulers of ancient Egypt were probably more swarthy than black.
