>>10468792Bike lanes are frequently filled with broken glass and debris. The cities typically make sidewalks illegal for cyclists (for good reason).
I was new to a city and didn't realise there was a bike lane on the other side of the street. Every so often a person would slow down, roll down their window and scream at me in french. I don't speak french so I didn't figure it out for a few weeks.
>>10468799You're right, they were made for horse drawn carriages. Cars btfo
>>10468806Cars don't stop at stop signs either. Watch em'.
Riding on the sidewalk, fuck yah I'll ride on the sidewalk. I don't need laws or a sign to tell me what is safe to do.
If the traffic is going 80mph and I can only cycle 23mph and there isn't a whole lot of room, i'll take the sidewalk and slow down to 10mph.
If the roads have room on the side, ill do that.
If the road has a load of broken glass on the side, I will take the lane in order to make myself predictable to drives (not swerving in and out of traffic). Then, once the obstical is passed I'll go back to the shoulder.
If I can stay within 5 mph of the posted speed limit, I will take the lane.
Common sense isn't so common.
Also, people get angrier when they are inside their cage.
