>>10474523I wish people would stop this retarded fawning. Fucking surf guitarists were better than him. More precise. More complex arrangements. Cleaner sound. More complex picking patterns.
We've really got to stop it with the 'what came before X was responsible for X and therefore X owes it everything.' Talk.
One person or genre doesn't 'give birth' to another genre. There's a giant whirlpool of influences out there, and people grow up learning a 'language' of music that consists of the thousands of different songs and artists they know and enjoy.
It's a dumb instinct to constantly follow the thread back to some nigger and be like "dis is where it began, bro". For some reason nobody looks to see where that nigger got his ideas, and where his influences got theirs. It's the myth of black 'soul' or black 'creative genius' or some shit.
If we keep following that thread, we will all have to claim mouth harp and boar skin drum nigger ritual dance music from Africa is the greatest thing we've ever heard because "It's what started it all, maaaan." Fuck off with that shit.
And besides, that's just a discussion of musical style and presentation. When it comes to good music, it's only partially about that anyway. Songs are also ABOUT something. And often the thought and idea behind the song is a far greater 'influence' than the style or 'sound' chosen to convey it. Again, we grow up steeped in a certain language. It's what one does with the language that matters most. And Jimmy was just meh.
