>>10484829I've been enjoying it, it's surprisingly untamed even now. worth a visit for sure, especially with how outdoors-minded so many finns are. You'd probably love it, I want to visit Finland even more now after having lived here in AK. I've got a fair few online friends over there and they're all top dudes.
>>10484833I was sick of the beaners and hearing spanish spoken every day in texas, no joke. also sick of melting when going outdoors. One too many trips to national parks with mountain ranges made me hate going back to flat Texas, so when I had the chance to work anywhere I looked at states that were mostly white and had a good outdoor scene with some elevation changes at least somewhere within the state. AK was the best offer. I've been enjoying it here a lot, but not sure I'll stay for the long haul. The distance from family in the lower 48 states and the difficulty of buying some things here (ammunition) is making my life more difficult than I imagined. The former is mainly because of coronavirus though, so it will pass. I have lived in the midwest before so the cold is nothing new to me, but I do get a lot of raised eyebrows because TX -> AK is quite a change. It's a great place, I could see myself building a cabin and retiring early to live off the land up here.
I foolishly left my blackout curtains in Texas. Having to buy several more than I anticipated because now all the windows need it. The weirdest thing has been realizing how much ambient light controls how your body feels when you're not used to it. I used to tell the time by gauging how bright it is, that habit really fucked me for awhile on both sides of winter.
I know what you mean about the warmth comment, the sun never gets high in the sky so it's always cooking you laterally. the heat of 60F feels like 80F and it's weird.
