You can start with three things:
1. Eat slowly and stop when you're satisfied
2. Less Sugar (desserts, juice, etc) and alcohol
3. Low intensity cardio (get a polar heart rate monitor and stay in the green zone). Walk/run, swim, hike, elliptical machine, whatever. Start with 20 min 3x/week. Slowly increase, there is essentially no cap.
The more often you implement these strategies, the more successful you will be. So if you cut out sugar for 75% of your meals, that's a start. 90%, that's better. Just remember with sugar, the more you take in, the more you want. So often it's just easier to avoid it altogether.
