The question is to explain the waifu phenomenon. Our first hypothesis, which seems most likely before further consideration, is that waifus are simply sexual coping mechanisms which incels or otherwise unattractive men adopt in order to titillate themselves. While much of the waifu phenomenon is sexual, it should occur to us that this explanation cannot be sufficient: the main sexual drive of males is to acquire a harem of fertile women, maximizing breeding access. If the explanation above were sufficient, then waifuism would take the form of harem building rather than pair bonding, with each man amassing a large collection of waifus rather than a single waifu. At this point we can discard our first hypothesis, since it does not explain why most who have waifus are "monogamous."
