Stop watching SoL that's set in conventional settings (schools, tokyo, and shit) and start watching SoL that's set in zany settings (fantasy, sci-fi, oddball jobs, etc) instead.
Patlabor's a good one, it's not entirely a SoL but the SoL outweighs the action. It's about police in the near future who ride mechs, though most of what happens is just friendly police banter and them living their lives.
Planete's is also a great one. It takes a mundane job like being garbage-men but instead of picking up garbage on streets they're picking up garbage orbiting the Earth. It revolves around the every-day lives of space garbagemen.
Kino no Tabi's another neat one, it's about a character who travels from nation state to nation state and experiences their cultures and traditions.
