Why do so many weebs cream their jorts over Evangelion? The first half is barely watchable garbage and by the time it gets "good" I already hate every character outside of Misato. Shinji's actions make no sense from how a teenager would act, just because he doesn't act like a normal shounen protagonist doesn't make him a realistic or relatable character. Also I can't believe people knock Gurren Lagann for the fanservice when there's almost the same amount in Evangelion, except Asuka and Rei are more obviously children than part 1 Yoko because the art style of TTGL makes it easier to forget character ages. Also the pseudo religious themes don't actually add any depth to the show and just make it annoying and pretentious. Plus Gainax clearly blew their load with the budget too early and a bunch of the later episodes look like dogshit. Maybe I don't like it because unlike most weebs I didn't watch it until I was a late college student and it wasn't one of my first anime so I don't have a disgusting nostalgia boner for it. Why would you watch Evangelion when there are so many better mech shows that have come out since, like Bokurano, Eureka Seven, Infinite Stratos, and Straight Title Robot Anime. Any one of those shows does more with the genre and are way stronger takes. Bokurano handles darker themes way better, Eureka 7 (not including the terrible sequel) is a great time with a fun cast, Infinite Stratos has a far more cohesive and refined plot, and Straight Title Robot Anime is the purest form of the genre, as its title suggests. I don't care about the history behind Evangelion, just because it was different and shook things up doesn't mean it was good.
