At the very least they were certainly NOT jews, or proto jews. To even describe the Akkadians or other semitic speaking mesopotamian cultures as ancestors to Jews is wrong. It's like saying that Arabs and Jews are the same people because they both speak semitic languages. You could say the Israelites descend from the Canaanite culture but the canaanites fragmented into different groups too like the phoenicians.
Ultimately the Jews are so divorced from those ancient cultures its wrong to compare them. Jews are a radical sect who schismed from the Canaanite religion to worship their one god YHWH, and then incorporated stolen Sumerian mythology with a corrupted and twisted occultism they acquired in Babylon.
