There's ones that taste at best like microwaveable food which is cheese tortellini, chili, and chili mac. everything else is putrid and disgusting though, anytime I went to the field i'd rather eat nuts and jerky with some calorie heavy snack with a multivite than that shit. I ate MREs (early 90s version) exclusively for about a year while in remote desert on Iraqi border. Only other food was maybe a dozen cans of sardines and kippered herring during that time. They're not bad but having nothing else for that length of time will fuck up your system for years to come if not a lifetime.

my dad had a bunch of those in a tote in the basement, the cute little glue eater i was, i opened most of them and ate some of it. mine were a little different though. they usually had candy and little glass bottles of dark ass red tabasco sauce that i still drank and some cheese that was almost always bad. the peanutbutter and crackers held up pretty nicely as did most of the meal portions however anything with tomatoes was pretty shady

I had a small 3x6x3 yard aluminum foil heat box with AC to sleep in, a nice foldy chair with a soda holder, and literally spent months just erecting or demolishing things. Never fired a bullet and the closest to combat I’ve experienced was the occasional mortar shell that landed a kilometer away. But I got them service ribbons boiiiii
