Propaganda is a multibillion dollar annual investment by the DoD. In basic training they design a lot of the lessons around the mindset that you're better than the average person, you're the 1%. When you get to your unit you have dudes projecting hyper-patriotism at you as they've already been brainwashed to not only accept, but glorify anything the military does. So with that in mind, when someone in the military sees someone wearing a uniform with velcro patches of little black blobs that they had to earn it sends them into a rage.
