>>10672550yes and no. a lot of the bigger enemies are quite tanky and do considerable amounts of more or less unavoidable damage. given that healing and ammo are technically finite actually killing the enemies becomes a test of preparedness more than skill. that's all fine and good some of the time, but it's really grating when it isn't.
basically enemies fall into 2 categories. the first are particularly special monsters or named NPCs that have been transformed into monsters. they're always particularly strong, but they also tend to stalk around important places and usually drop something worthwhile when you kill them. it leads to a cool dynamic where you want to avoid them at first but once you can get some upgrades from the area, set up some traps, learn their patrol path, etc. you want to take the time to kill them. this is good
the second type of enemies are random nameless baddies and they're awful. they're usually put in areas you just want to move through or don't have a ton of relevance. they're typically not huge investments to kill but are by no means trivial, drop nothing notable, and respawn. this means there's basically no reason to ever fight them but they either cut off the portion of the map they control or you need to solid snake around them every time you want to get from point A to point B
