Orthodox don't hate Catholics because they are both rather close in terms of general philosophy of how religion should be. Orthodox Christians also don't want to be crypto-Atheists like proddies, so the existence of Catholicism isn't a constant reminder telling them "you're just fooling yourself atheist your paradise is not guaranteed at all" unlike for proddies. You do realize that the Pope had next to none powers in late antiquity? most of the shit you are accusing them was caused by the pre Chalcedonian church, whose absolute ruler was the emperor (so more similar to the modern cesapopapist Orthodoxy). Papacy didnt even took direct part of most of the councils that caused schism within christianity (Nikaea, Ephesus, Chalcedon). Papacy only started to have actuall power in the 7th Century, as it was forced to replace the extinction of the state authority in the west

That’s a good point and I appreciate your response. Admittedly, I myself need to dig deeper into my faith as I’ve grown spiritually lazy this past year. I’ve always thought that a focus Christian apologetics was more productive than theological debate within Christianity, but like you said, without that deep understanding people become ignorant about their own faith and may turn towards other faiths or just give up religion entirely. However I cannot bring myself to believe that Christians would be condemned to hell simply because they are not catholic

I do not believe that Christians would be condemned to hell for misunderstanding the faith, but if a Christian through his misunderstanding would lead others astray he would essentially act as a deceiver. it is also more of a prevention mechanism, if the average understanding of theology is high enough most people will at least have safeguards within their mind not to instantly trust all that is being told to them.
Have you ever though about this peculiar thing that because of Media portrayal of Christianity, which is a weird mix of hearsay Protestantism and Catholicism which exists in America, most of the world learns Christianity from that? They do not even understand what trinity implies, hell I bet some people that call themselves traditional Christians (Be it Orthodox or Catholic) think that Christ is some sort of a separate entity/child of God like some sort of a pagan faith.
You know who are to blame for all of this above all else? The lazy priests. Those priests that instead of genuinely acting as leaders for their congregation, as spiritual teachers and even psychologists sometimes just read out the topical passages from the holy scriptures every sunday and call it a day.
