Try to imagine a 2D world. You want to interact with it so you try to show them your hand. Instead of fingers, they just see flashes of 5 circles as your hand passes through. You'll never convince those little guys what your form is, you'll never be able to truly interact with them. But you could see their entire world quite easily.
