feeling slightly superior keeps the fire of friendship alive, both are trying to get better, a friend like that is a rival and a friend at the same time.
I only had 3 people in my life like that and the friendships worked pretty well, one for example was a guy with the best math grades in class along with me. There was always a rivalry between us two, trying to prove that i am better than him, it was really fun.
