>>10821808It might be possible if we figure out what enables consciousness and individuality. The machine would put you into a virtual space, like within a game, where you'd exist and could consciously do things. You'd be connected through it and to an empty synthetic brain or computer (with or without a body, whatever the configuration was). Everything would be real time and connected to the VR. Your body would be asleep or in stasis, whatever the definition for such a thing is. You'd be "awake" in the VR. The machine would then copy your exact brain structure to the synthetic brain, while simultaneously (if necessary) delete your organic brain. By delete I obviously mean a soft destruction through localized electric shocks, microwaves, whatever... basically, it would replace your existence on the fly. Both the synthetic and the organic would be connected to the VR at the same time, so as the data was being transferred and the organic eliminated (again, if necessary), you wouldn't experience any kind of difference in the VR. And as you exited it, you'd awake in the machine or robot body. At least that's how it makes sense to me...
Step 1: Figure out what makes consciousness
Step 2: Create total immersion VR
Step 3: Create synthetic brain and machine capable of transferring memories and consciousness (maybe that's circumventable through VR itself, if the VR itself doesn't require a consciousness transfer because it is, after all, an "out of body experience").
