the essential problem is that good threads are usually thought of as either threads which are uniquely humorous or threads which involve deep and engaging discussion.
the former is possible on /bant/ but we have already poisoned our humor with irony and frankly most things have already been tried. While possible these threads are rare.
the latter is impossible on /bant/, since nobody comes to this board for real conversation, and even if they did the board is just slightly too fast to maintain post quality in topical threads even if somehow anons could be made to engage without shitposting.
in short I don't fuckin know either

I think the latter is possible as well, as long as the participants are willing. In fact, I had better discussions about literature here than I did on /lit/, thanks to one of the Russians.

One way to make a goode threade is just to post something that's fun to participate in.
Most banters don't want to read or think too hard.
Some people are stupid and make threads that are hard to respond to, or don't really require a response at all.

Just make your thread require a response.
Questions about shit nobody can relate to is obviously a bad idea.
Make it easy to relate to.
