America needs both to be a superpower, there's a reason our Air Force is the biggest in the world and our Navy is the second biggest
Other countries might be able to make do without such a large navy, ergo making an air force more important but for coastal nations and especially the US you need a navy

Navy. Not even a question. You can't reliably project your air power without a good Navy. Not only that, but navies are one of the most effective tools for economic warfare as well through blockades and sinking of commercial vessels.

Without looking at the numbers, serving in the Navy will probably get you a better job in civilian life. But you also have to live in a ship for most of your time. Alot of former Navy either move to or vacation frequently in Southeast Asia because they just cant get enough if that cheap dirty southeast asian flat face pussy. The Navy is also more important strategically, and they actually have the cool fighter planes. The airforce basically does cargo and refueling. Strategic bombing is a meme, and a warcrime.
