I don't think you've ever really read any historical text regarding combat. Many techniques were downright dirty like riding a horse and bapping a fucker in the face with a flanged mace. Everything was about getting a dirty advantage over your opponent. Trip him, pommel hit him, hand and a half your broadsword and even kicking a dude in the junk was all fair game. They didn't 1v1 and spar off. Hell no they did cheap ass shit like phalanx and archers backed up by cavalry.
Knights weren't honorable and often became sellswords to make more money. They were okay with doing shit like knocking you down and just smashing you into the mud until you literally couldn't get up under the weight of your armor.
If you think combat has honor you are deeply mistaken.

War was never about honor or glory, those were just unnecessary bi-products of weaponry so base and savage that using them effectively in combat bolstered ego and earned you respect. Now that we have proper weaponry, war can continue unhindered by self-obsession. Just as it should be.
