I have a theory about rich and poor.

Let us first assume that there will always be rich and poor because people are not all the same. Even in Soviet Russia there were rich and poor.

The rich want to stay rich by all means, which means there must always be poor people around since being rich is relative. However, the poor can’t be desperately poor in large numbers or else there will be chaos, since at that the poor masses will essentially have nothing to lose. So rich people have this interesting balancing act to handle. One the one hand, they have to keep too many people from being rich in order to continue enjoying their exclusive privileges, but on the other hand they can’t let the poor get too bad or else they will revolt.

Consequently, the policy of the rich against the poor is not one of eradication or oppression, but rather containment. It’s a kind of loose control whereby the poor are kept somewhat satisfied in exchange for not revolting. The latest riots are an example of the poor desperate minority venting steam so we can all get back to the way it has been as soon as possible.

I say this as one of the more privileged in the US.
