For example, when plants/trees/etc of the same kind are planted in close proximity, they do better than if they're interspersed with other kinds. It seems they form a kind of mutual support system, where, if one is lacking in some thing, the others will pick up the slack. None of this goes beyond reactions, though. Like when you intentionally bend a plant and it grows in an altered way, they're only reacting to outiside stimuli, rather than actually feeling anything. Then again, one could say the same about animals too.
