I should've asked more plainly, do you know if these McCords were Catholic or Protestant, and if Protestant, do you know which denomination? It's not an ironclad rule as Ireland has had plenty of Protestant republicans and nationalists, and a few (though far fewer) Catholic unionists - besides, your ancestors may have migrated before such matters were of great concern.
Nevertheless, knowing if they were Protestant or Catholic would be a far surer determinant of whether they were of Irish or Scottish extraction, particularly if - if Protestant - they were of a Calvinist derived denomination (Evangelists, Presbyterians, and the Low Church Nonconformists of the Anglican Church, etc).
