Ear piercings are fine and certainly not a deal breaker on women, beyond that people look like they want to audition for the circus.
For tattoos it varies, but if it's small and covers with casual clothes while not being cancer it's usually acceptable. Location wise if you can't see it why bother getting it.

How is a rejection for a job harming them in any way. If they were really that valuable to a company than by allowing that company not to accept them you'd be making that company pay for their prejudice as they missed out on a profitable employee.

They do, it's a signal to them, because that's all appearance is basically, as is education, a signalling device of what you'll be as an employee to them.
Literally every major company would prefer it if people in client facing roles do not have any tattoos or piercings and it's not difficult to understand why
