Reddit is cancerous for a number of reasons
1) As
>>1109010 pointed out, every post is calculated to gain the most points. Replace "karma" with "likes" and you have Facebook. They recently made it so you can approve of people's posts with actual money.
2) You can reply to replies infinitely. This leads to clever and hilarious (autistic and unfunny) chains of people trying to outjoke one another. It also makes conversation grossly non-linear which leads to lots of discussion over nothing.
3) Anybody can make a board. This is nice in theory, but the end result is a bunch of safe spaces and things like r/jailbait, r/incestporn, r/the_donald, etc.
4) The valuable and enlightening (autistic and trivial) content is saved forever to allow the site owners to maximize their advertising profits. Unless someone decides to delete their account or posts, often rendering threads, which will be saved forever, more unreadable.
