The definition of "1 second" is useless if you don't have the technological praxis on-hand to ping a cesium atom with just-enough energy to make it emit a specific color of light, and then count the trillions of wavefronts (which IS the definition of the second).
Moreover, the US has technically been on the SI system since the 50s when our Congress changed the definitions of the Imperial unit to match their SI counterparts. That's why 1 inch is EXACTLY 2.54cm, with no concern for significant figures.
Once the SI unit for Kg is redone in terms of physical constants (versus a physical reference object), the US definition of 1 pound with automatically change with it.
Jesus.... why can't the Euros into unit conversion? It's not that hard. They just bitch at us Burgers because we prefer a different set of common denominators, because we like our unit scales to match what our bodies and perceptions are tuned for. Nature gave us a hand to play, and that isn't the hand that is best suited for understanding Nature.
