But to us, the first users, it was something more. It was a blank canvas. We saw it as what it could be, instead of what it was intended to be. For us it was an opportunity to create a community for ourselves, without having to deal with the baggage and ingrained autism present on all the other Misc. boards.
We made it into something fresh and creative, we made memes, we had board games, we had actual baitless discussions, we talked about interests and music... it was beautiful.
Don't give the 4chan administration any credit for early /bant/ culture. The users were the ones to make it great. If the admins had actually cared about /bant/ they would've made an effort to keep it cancer free.
