They live in a segregated society, with the different race of "muggles" (sounds sort of like nigger, doesn't it?) living outside in the dredges.
Pretty, mostly white society. Very hierarchal. Jewish bankers. Wealth inequality (Harry gets a shitload of inheritance, a bank vault full of gold, never pays taxes on it). The kids are off at a literal fucking boarding school. Lots of rules and order.
When the kids get to the school they are immediately given a wand, which is a literal sidearm that can be used to kill others. They take "defense against the dark arts" classes and are taught to become killing machines and violent warriors.
There's not a single humanities or "soft science" class ever referenced in the series as far as I am aware.
The children are routinely endangered throughout the series and Harry Potter is perpetually exploited by everyone in the series throughout. It's never once considered that this is "bad" or "horrible", but rather it's presented as a fantasy in which it's Harry Potter's honor to be exploited by and serve others.
The Earth is basically ruled by a secret government that works in the shadows and has lots of secrets (and this is portrayed as a good thing). Even among the wizards, the government has a lot of power and secrecy and totalitarian power, which it ends up using later on in the series once the "bad guy" takes over.
The "bad guy" is basically a racial purist trying to eliminate "mudbloods" which are half breeds. The "good guys" seem to think this is a bad idea, but only because "mudbloods" have all of the same abilities as full bloods. So I guess the wizarding gene must be dominant or something. The "good guys" still don't want to admit the filthy muggles into the wizarding world and are extremely, unabashedly racist against them throughout the entire series.
I'm a lefty by the way, so that's the point of view I'm writing this from.
