Make the land fertile with grasses and clover.
It'll take some time, but it's achieveable with proper care.
step one: create field
step two: plant clover
step three: allow goats to browse in it
step four: plow field over again, this time plant buckwheat
:step five: after harvesting buckwheat and drying out the straw plant clover again as a winter cover crop.
step six: after the winter, plant vegetables
legumes and buckwheat are resilient and great for amending soil. they're great plants.
after a couple of years plant apple trees too. apple trees provide a YUGE amount of calories per acre.
One mature full sized apple tree can yield 10 bushels easily, a bushel of apples is 48 pounds. one tree produces 480 pounds, you can have 200 full sized apple trees on an acre easily. 480*200=96000. one pound of apples in 237 calories, which means an acre will produce 22,752,000 calories a year.
that's enough calories to feed 31 people for a whole year at 2000 calories a day.
fruit trees are incredible.
if you plant an acre of potatos that's a first year yield of about 22000 pounds from an acre. a pound of taters is 349 calories. that's 7,678,000 calories. which is enough to feed 10 people a whole year at 2000 calories a day.
get some livestock as well. goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits are what I recommend. two pigs and a small herd of goats will help you clear more land while also providing ou with meat, pelts, dairy products, and all the waste too, which can be given to the piggus. chickens also help with the soil as well for strachting the manure into the ground.
