All merkins are afraid of everything. I've never encountered a more shit-in-their-pants scared people in my life, and I've traveled a lot. The government, communists, the environment, going broke, becoming ill, going to the wrong neighbourhood. They're afraid of anything that moves, or are stapled to the wall.
It's a psychological hellscape.
