What made Eva a classic is that it is a unique piece that can not be compared with whatever great cliche seasonal stuff you might find today. For example attack of titan is really good today but in 20 years no one will talk about it because the story is the basically the typical Shonen with really good graphics and characters, so in 20 years a similar anime with better art will come out and then there won't be any reason to whatch aot.
