>>11226442I got into collecting rocks after taking a geology class at my local community college. I decided to go to the big rock and mineral exposition in Tuscon Arizona and was amazed by everything I saw there. So, I decided to try and find/make my own stuff and I've been doing it ever since. No matter where you are, there's always someplace nearby you can find cool rocks or fossils.
If you want to find your own cool hobby, then I'd say you should explore anything that seems like it might be interesting to you. You could do more sciency stuff like star-gazing, bird-watching, or growing your own micro ecosystem in a bottle, or you could try some more artistic things like drawing, woodworking, pottery, or even making metal flowers (metal roses are surprisingly easy). And if you find your interests tend to change over time, that's okay too. There's plenty of times where I just don't go out rock collecting for a few months because I don't feel like it. Just pursue whatever happens to draw your attention!
