>>11225549also to follow this up, when you hung out with a girl it was you and her. that's it. TV was boring reruns and you didn't have cell phones so you just hung out and bonded, looked eachother in the eyes, got to really know eachother and experience stuff together with both of you there in the moment instead of recording it to share on instagram. you went to a concert or to see some underground local band and it was just you guys and the room of people there in that moment enjoying the experience together, no one holding up phones to record it watching it through their screen or anything, no one txting their friends about it, all of you were just there in that moment experiencing something that no one else would ever see if the band didn't have professionals recording it for some TV event or whatever. and you knew that that experience was something between the people who were there for it and that was it
now girls are one foot out of relationships at all time, whether it's cheating and seeing multiple guys or whether it's being on their phones when they hang out with their guy, and no one develops the kind of "us against the world" pairbonds that we did back then. now a girl doesn't have to date some guy who hasn't made it yet and struggle with him and bond over that struggle. now she can go "cool well good luck with that I'm going to date this rich guy off my instagram, I'll check in on you when you're successful and I'm in my 30s maybe I'll give you a chance then"
this'll be gay but this proposal vid captures what relationships were like back then, going through good and bad times together, both just in the moment recording a VHS for just themselves and maybe their close friends and family to someday watch, not to go viral or anything and all the media was pushing people to believe in finding "the one" and wanting monogamy and deep relationships full of ups and downs instead of all ups or you bail & ghost em:
