/bant/ approved books you can buy from normal book shops? (Waterstones, WHSmith, etc)
Tried to find the Turner Diaries but unsurprisingly neither sells it.

Good, after seing Hitchhikers was wondering if you'd read any of his others... Long Dark Teatime of the Soul is my preferred one, rate it above Hitchhikers but Dirk Gently's good too.

So, think I'll hunt up a bit more edwardian humour out of this.

eh, i didn't like long dark teatime of the soul much... seemed very anticlimatic, and norse mythology seemed too cliched (though the book was probably written before it became a cliche). my favourite book of hjis is actually the non-fiction Last Chance to See.

three men on the bummel isn't as good as the first book, but it takes place in germany in the late 19th century, and some of the passages in it seem darkly prophetic.

Well, I teethed on The Odyssey so pantheons and their reimaginations have always entertained me, whether it be Ilium/Olympos, Lord of Light, or American Gods which I did only read after LDTTotS.

But yeah some authors have non-fiction as interesting in a way as their fiction, Some Remarks by Stephenson - while not of excessive import - does have the incisiveness of his fiction pieces. With Banks down I'd rate him ~#1 in SF right now.

I got a book signed from a dude who really inspired me. I saw one of his talks. His name is Andreas Pröve. He is a wheelchair bound dude who travels through Asia on his chair.
In one tour he started in Vietnam and travelled up to Tibet to the source of the Mekong river. I just don't know if his books are even available in English
