Its anoerobic excercise and has a sole purpose of build explosive strenght, it has pretty much zero impact on your weight because you don't actually breathe out a lot while sprinting. There is also a time tested good weight loss excercise called walking, yes its time consuming but it gives you results without impacting your health in negative ways like sprinting does. So then there was a dude with a very bright idea of combining two of those to get the best of both worlds, but what he got is all the negatives of sprinting(literal knee destroyer, very high effort excercise) and walking(time consuming) and got ineffective pile of shit as a result. For you to really get a grasp on how bad jogging actually is moderate jog calorie burn per mile sits at around 90, doing same mile walking burns around 70. Thing is as someone who didn't do any hiit before you will probably struggle to run a mile, but you will most certainly be able walk one, and probably not onle one mile without any trouble at all and without any negative consequences for your health.
