All these years I had to endure a name I can't stand. Both my parents are from Croatia and then named me Šime. It's the dumbest name you can give to a western American. It sounds stupid, it's stupid to pronounce and I always get weird eyes from strangers when I say it. The American "equivalent", Simon isn't much better and sounds more gay IMO. When I was in grade school blacks, latinos and even my teachers would mock me and berate my name. I am done carrying this burden. Has anyone ever changed their name? What's life like after you do so? Is it hard to adapt? Do you tell family and friends to call you by your old or new name? What are the most annoying things about changing your name?
