You know those 1-inch white packets that come in shoe boxes and stuff like that? To soak up humidity so the leather doesn't get moldy on a boat or whatever.
Those 'hand warmers'. I think its' little silicone beads. Just don't store your food someplace where it will spoil.

some people buy randomly. try cooking with random.
Buy eggs: They'll keep in a cool spot for months.
If you have space, buy chickens. They'll eat homegrown darkling beetles (free) and make eggs for years.
7 cans of soup is 7 lunches.
7 cans of tuna is 7 lunches.
Figure out what you cook for dinner and duplicate it in a savable meal.
Like for spaghetti: 1 box pasta; 1 box sauce.
Just plan your supply around recipes 1 week at at time.
You can get 40 lbs of rice for $40
and 25 lbs of split peas for $16.
Just buy a bit extra until you have a weeks worth. Then do it again.
and do not buy stuff that you don't like.

You can do an aquaponics set up. There are some good books on the subject. Start NOW. Tilapia is cheap, but it doesn't have the same great health profile as other fish. Also-they reproduce so quickly that they polute their own tank and die off.
You can usually do this in a cement pit 7 feet across and 3 feet deep.
There are some solar fountains for under $60 that will aerate the water.
Like i said, start now, read up.

And the garden is a good idea, but it's a short-season. Gardens aren't 12-months of yield.
Plant some fruit trees that are hardy in your climate. They won't produce for at least 1 year, but once they do, it's a bonus.
One $40 apple tree that produces 10 apples in 1 year, and 100 apples the following year is worth it.
I have grown several gardens (different locations) and taken care of livestock. Depending on where you are from, you must protect livestock from coyotes, raccoons, bears, cougars, maybe other humans.
And that's easy.
If you grow a garden, you must protect it from
too much sun
too much rain
all animals and rodents
all weeds
drought
and EVERY FUCKING BUG on planet earth.
I love my garden. But livestock are easier. I don't have to week them.
Chickens are easy. Look up darkling beetles. If you feed them about 18 % protein (beetles) and give them your scraps, they'll run around in a fenced area, crap on everything, and eat bugs and plants.

Buy cheap land in a remote place with a shelter that can't be seen from the road if possible. If possible associate with like minded people, preferably family members. Know how to grow your own food. Have it ready to move in.

Look up dry canning.
Can easily be done in your oven with mason jars
Perfect for beans, crackers flour and white rice
Can also make quart jar soup mixes and store them that way.
Just add water and they last indefinitely.
Get a $50 pressure canner and can tomatoes.
Can't grow enough? Buy a fuck ton now and can them. Its easy and they last for years.
Learn to make wine, beer and bread from scratch.
They're good trade commodities.

Seeds are not enough. You must cultivate heirloom seeds. The yield can be mixed, but you can replant the seeds they produce next year. This is a must.

It takes 5 years for an apple tree to produce apples from a sapling. Learn how to graft and have at least 10 trees of different varieties. Peach trees too.

Learn to graft those trees. You can't grow apple trees from seed. They'll always come back stunted and not the same variety.

If you haven't got at least 10 acres, you're fucking doing it wrong. Wooded preferred somewhere at least 5 miles from the nearest highway.

Gas oven anon. One hopes that you're not prepping after the happening. Should have propane in stock for dozens of uses anyway. Besides, running the electronics on an oven is a simple task either through batteries or solar. Tested it irl to see power draw. An oven can run off a deep cycle battery for basically forever. Good luck on your prepper general. I'll be watching. Also thermometers aren't exactly hard to come by. Should have at least a dozen of different varieties in your store. Again, good luck.
