Old homes are sealed like shit. This increases heating and cooling costs but cuts down on mold issues due to the airflow inside walls etc being to much for mold growth and drying out the walls when water does get in.
Newer better sealed homes are where you have serious mold issues because once inside the water can't get out. Also the wood is typically better quality older growth which is slighty more mold res due to a variety of factors.
